WASHINGTON, April 27 (Itar-Tass) – RIA Novosti. President of the United States Donald Trump presented to Congress a report on combating “disastrous Russian influence,” as required by the defense budget, the White House said.
The text of the report was not made public and probably will not be, because it contains secret information.
“As required by law, I am sending you a report required by paragraph 1256 of the defense budget for 2018,” Trump said in a letter to the Congress leadership.
The corresponding item of the defense budget requires the president to draw up a report on operations in cyberspace and in the information field. In particular, the State Department and the Ministry of Defense were obliged to submit “proposals for strengthening joint and regional information operations and strategic communication plans aimed at countering the information war, the harmful influence and propaganda activities of the Russian Federation.” It was also necessary to report on plans for joint cyber warfare with Europe, to identify areas for cooperation with NATO and the EU in the field of cybersecurity.
The investigation of Russia’s imputed interference in the American elections, as well as the alleged connections between Trump and Moscow, which are denied both in the White House and in the Kremlin, is being conducted in the Ministry of Justice and in the Congress. Russia has repeatedly refuted accusations of interference in internal affairs and attempts to influence elections in different countries. The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov called the accusations “absolutely unsubstantiated.”
